Final 15k TT for the year…and it was a good one

So haven’t been able to do as many TTs as I would like this year, and coming into this 15k the last one I had done previously was back in July. I also had not beaten my time from last year yet which was concerning to me. Coming off a number of events however I was feeling good and planned to do well and aim for a Personal Best.

I wasn’t sure we would get this one in, the weather was horrible and some nasty storms had been through earlier in the day. But often that is the best time for good times if the storms have just passed as the air behind the storms is very clear and wind free.

And that was the case here. It was probably the best weather so far this year in the TTs that I have ridden and with it being the last of the year pressure was on. Last year I had recorded one 15k tt over 40 Kph but so far this yet I had not. Twice I had gotten close at 39.8 kph.

Was using the Cervelo P2 and Flo Disc for this one. I was slotted mid pack and was soon off.

There was a bit of a tailwind and I was flying for my 1st 5k. Middle lump is always a bit harder as there is a climb over a bridge then the turn around where you have to build up power again, and I could see my average time dropping. Really focused and pushed it out for the last 5k and finished with a 2:18. Awesome new Personal Best!!

Raw stats below.

Split Time Moving Time Distance Avg Speed Avg HR Cadence Power
1 07:00.0 6:59 5 42.9 150 91 215
2 07:43.4 7:43 5 38.8 157 84 217
3 07:34.9 7:33 4.93 39 161 80 224
 Summary 22:18.3 22:15.0 14.93 40.2 156 85 219

Say what you will about the PowerCal strap, but in this case it clearly showed that I was pushing hardest when I really was pushing hard and 224w for the last 5k shows. I can sustain and even fight it out to make my time which I could not do in the past. Interestiinly while my heartrate and Power were up my cadence was down in last 5k. Not sure what it means but its nice to see what you are doing post race.

Was officially given a 22:18 and average of 40.36. Aiming to do into the mid 41s next year!

Personal Best
